Bloglet: Morel Fry

IMG_6500It’s that time of year again! Morel season got off to a chilly start. We searched the woods and didn’t find morels in any of the usual places.

My daughter spotted a nest of blondie morels as we were going from one picking area to another. We were scanning the woods on either side of a walking trail as we traveled rapidly to the other side of the park.  She spotted something pale among the leaves and found about 12 morels clustered around a couple of dead and barkless trees.

Morels dipped in egg wash: rolled in flour seasoned with pepper, garlic salt; and fried in olive oil.

We only had an hour to hunt, so we picked the area and spent our remaining minutes fruitlessly searching areas were we had dependably found morels in previous years. I don’t know if it is just a bad year or if there were a lot of mushroom hunters there before us. We ended up with enough morels for a nice fry and were satisfied. Begonia
